This miniature portrait is unfortunately cracked, but is initialled on the front "WJN 1816" and signed on the reverse "W J Newton pinxit 33 Argyll St. 1816".
Sir William John Newton (1785-1869) was a well regarded artist. The name John Kingston is written in pencil on the reverse and this may be the sitter. 285
